What is Whittard of Chelsea?
Whittard of Chelsea introduction
Whittard of Chelsea, abbreviated as Whittard, is a tea boutique brand that has entered the Taiwanese market in recent years. It was founded in 1886 in the UK by Walter Whittard at the age of 25. He was a very young entrepreneur whose main business philosophy is “selecting the best quality materials”, which aligns with the romantic and single-minded spirit of the UK. Simultaneously, this concept has been maintained to today, and has successfully expanded all over the world.
Whittard is a brand with a rich story, having experienced the impact of World War II and experienced the transformation of the founding father’s business. But unlike other brands, they did not go down because of the bombing of warehouses during World War II, nor did they cause infighting because of the inheritance of their two sons. I think that’s why their brand has been around for so long, even though at the end Whittard’s bloodline has been severed and the Whittard of Chelsea has been passed on to someone else. However, due to Mr. Walter’s admirable spirit, subsequent operators are also willing to adhere to his business philosophy and carry forward the Walter brand.

The recommended tea of Whittard
In addition to tea, Whittard has also launched coffee, chocolate, tableware, and more, but here we will focus on making recommendations for its tea products. If you fancy other products of this brand, you can go to their official website to have a look! Whittard’s tea will be classified by number, including tea bags and loose tea packaging. You can choose according to your own needs.
NO.1. English Breakfast
When you think of England, you will definitely think of authentic English breakfast tea. Therefore, as a British boutique tea brand, Whittard never misses English breakfast tea, and it is their most popular product which never disappoints. It has the aroma of authentic English tea, similar to Assam black tea, but slightly malty which complements the smooth taste, also very suitable for making fresh milk tea.
NO.7. Mango & Bergamot
Mango & Bergamot green tea, according to the name, is based on green tea, with combined flavours of mango, bergamot, and guidon. In addition, dried fruit and chrysanthemum petals can be seen amongst the tea leaves. The taste is refreshing and has a summer feeling. It can also be made into cold-brewed tea to relieve the summer heat.
NO.12. English Rose
English Rose black tea, the name carries a noble vibe, which is said to have been specially designed by Whittard for Princess Diana at that time. Rose petals cannot be seen amongst the tea leaves as the black tea leaves are rather rose-infused. However, its rose flavour is still undiminished, which makes it a very worthwhile tea.
NO.25. Super Fruits
The difference between this Whittard and other fruit teas is that in addition to the berry aroma, it also has a rose aroma. I highly recommend that it can be made into cold-brewed tea, and the fragrance of flowers can be placed into the brewed tea, which I personally think is more distinctive.
NO.33. Earl Grey
Whittard’s Earl Grey has a strong citrus aroma. However, since the aroma is very strong, it is recommended not to soak for too long, to prevent over bitterness. It is suggested that you can also add lemon slices (British style) or add fresh milk.
This specific mint tea is a milder version of standard mint tea. It does not have a strong cooling feeling but has a soothing and calming effect, thus, I don’t recommend having this mint tea to refresh yourself. Furthermore, Whittard suggests that 95 degrees is the ideal brewing temperature for this mint tea and is not suitable for being brewed at temperatures far beyond that.
NO.100. Sleepy Tea
Have it when feeling stressed, as it’s lavender and chamomile based which has a stress relief effect. I personally think the aroma is very strong, which can set off a floral fragrance strong enough to fill an entire room once brewed. The smell is very pleasant and I highly recommend everyone to try it.
